BMC Experiment Purpose: To gather information from FI’s, SME’s and secondary data to create a Profit and Loss (PNL) statement based on assumptions of how PEV would run a Microfinance business in Fiji. By evaluating the profits and losses of running a MF business in Fiji we can determine its capability and thus viability in the future. Whilst profit isn’t as accurate a measure for a Financial product (due to its inability to capture time values) we believe this experiment is a needed...

[FEB 19] Problem/Customer Segment Experiment Results - Fiji SoCon Reference the Experiment Design Post https://projecteverest.crowdicity.com/post/924700 Due to the nature of the experiment focusing on empathising, we had no direct assumptions and collated solely qualitative data regarding Financial Institutions (FI’s) pain points and operations. Resultantly, we took our survey results and coded it into a binary format (Y/N). This binary analysis allowed us to quantify the qualitative...

FEB 19 – Fiji SoCon I Lean Phase: Problem/Customer Segment Purpose: Empathise with banks to understand the issues they face offering financial products in Fiji. By evaluating larger issues affecting the Microfinance space in Fiji, PEV will be able to infer likely common blocks that we will face when operating. This will also allow us to critique the inferred ‘barrier’s’ institutions face in order to assess this potential operating space for SoCon that is not currently targeted by banks...

The Social Consulting and Microfinance teams in Fiji are still very much in the empathy stage of operation; looking to further define the problem and customer segment aspects of this project and space before moving to offer any product or solution.  The January SoCon team's in Fiji worked hard this month to define the customer segments and problems within the Microfinance space. The segments and problems explored this month looked into small businesses and SMEs, agricultural merchants, and...

FarmEd July has had a tough month getting through a lot of the assumptions we had when we came into country. Although we didn't have an MVP we feel confident leaving country that our hypothesised prototype of Farmed would be successful here.  Our key findings of the month were: Facebook is the best way to connect with farmers. Facebook has highly penetrated the Cambodian market and it is often the way people feel most comfortable communicating. This is a potentially channel for us to...

GOAL 3: EXPERIMENT DESIGN Selling 30 trials to the app in which customers will be granted full access to all factors of the interface   Lean Phase: Solution, Value Proposition This experiment is designed to determine product-market fit for our app and to assess the determined price point as being suitable for the target market and the service provided.   Assumption: People are willing to pay for our product The demand for our product exists for this specific...

Proposed Experiment

GOAL 1: EXPERIMENT DESIGN Onboard 50 potential customers onto the beta app (or facebook proxy) and collect data from 30 potential customers getting them to complete outlined tasks on the app   Lean Phase: Solution A desire for agricultural advice has been confirmed through surveys and empathising in Siem Reap, Cambodia. We believe an app is the most effective way to provide this advice, considering the current and projected market climate and smartphone penetration. A beta app...

Lean Phase: In our experiments, the team focused on the solution, customer segment and channel phases of the lean process. We worked on validating a need for a scalable tech-based product, through exploring how our predicted target audience would interact with online platforms.   Assumption:  Experiment 4 was designed to test multiple assumptions: If information was given through an app or page it would be understood if it was in English and/or Khmer script. When...

FarmEd Cambodia has completed a month of extensive ideation surrounding MVP testing, to collect data in consolidating a customer demand for our product and move forward to prototyping in the near future. Lean Phase: Experiment 1 - Channels Phase: tested phone dexterity among farmers, to assess how they interact with technology in comparison to ourselves. Experiment 2&3 - Solution Phase: both experiments complement each other, investigating the ability to receive, interpret and...

The point of this month is simple, measuring people not product. We need to know how our consumers will want to interact with farmed in order for our business to reach commercialisation, thus we are going head strong into this month ready to learn about our customers pains and gains so that when a tangible app exists we know its got value. Broken down into metrics: Experiment 2: Tech & MVP testing Collect data from 40 potential customers on: Engaging with a Chatbot...

Here are some resources for those interested in Ag Apps/those working on farmed over July, these range in their applicability to our target market as well as the issues they solve, but as every lecturer has ever told me extra sources never goes awry.    Firstly the MOONSHOT product https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKZfjtPquzs A fully autonomous farming robot, with not only the capabilities of land management but expert troubleshooting. Something well beyond LEAN but none the less...

Project Summary

We finally must say farewell to the 2 farms that Cambodia's summer teams have put their blood, sweat and tears into and it really shows. At the beginning of summer Eugenia and her 3 team mates worked hard to set up a farm in a city thats slowly urbanising, comparing that to now is beyond comprehension. As February steps off from their last day in country, we've left behind 2 farms, 21 beds planted, 12 trellises created, 1 irrigation system put in and a whole lot of seeds and Cambodia...

As FarmEd continues to thrive globally, communication remains at the heart of our operations, with teams operating across four different time zones, it is the processes and operations that run internally that allow communication to flow effectively and it will be the root to our success in building a strong adaptable model across these four varying cultural climates.   THE PROBLEM As a TL working in Cambodia on Field development, I will be talking about what I know but I truly...

February Goals As summer draws to a close it is know that we start to think about the stages our projects are in and began to ideate on pushing the boundaries on what has been done. FarmEd in Cambodia will be looking to work upon the excellent work that was completed by the Jan team, particularly emphasising the need for ideation and moonshot thinking regarding elements of the blueprint composition as well as the content and delivery of our workshops.   The following goals...

Work Update

This month Field Dev in Cambodia have absolutely smashed not only their expectations but the expectations across farmed in setting up 2 experimentation plots for further development.  Bill's land has now been decided as our primary plot for these reasons: 1.      It represents a unique insight into Cambodian farming practice. The opportunity we have had to work from where the December team left off provided unquantifiable experience of setting up a farm and on boarding the...

The december field dev team hustled hard in cambodia, establishing a solid foundation for the upcoming summer months to begin to push the boundaries on the permaculture blueprint. After establishing a close relationship with the Cambodian Landmine Museum who allowed us to use there farm land for development, the team also entered into a potential partnership with a local farming technology park, run by CESAIN, opening up another location to test the proposed blueprint design. Whilst...
