Lean Phase: Solution (Offer Testing)

Assumption: Farmers are able to set up and use the soil sensors to find the light, moisture and pH information specific to their farms.

Time Box: 2 weeks

Key Metrics: The number of farmers who display the ability to use the soil sensors

Success point: 80% of farmers who are shown a soil sensor are able to a) use its various functions and b) read relevant information from the display. 50% of these farmers are willing to buy the sensor.

Green Light:

  • Continue selling the soil sensors
  • Collect any feedback farmers have after using the sensors through a survey

Orange Light Range: 50-80% of farmers who are shown a soil sensor are able to use its various functions and read relevant information from the display. 30% of these farmers are willing to buy the sensor.

Orange Light:

  • Continue with selling the soil sensors
  • Determine why certain farmers are finding difficulty using sensors using the survey.
  • Fix the sales pitch or pH information depending on why farmers can’t use the sensors.
  • Collect any feedback farmers have after using the sensors through a survey

Failure point: Less than 50% of farmers who are shown a soil sensor are able to use and record its various functions

Red light:

  • Consider re-explaining how the soil sensors work to the farmers
  • Collect any feedback farmers have after using the sensors through a survey to determine why they are having issues using the sensors
  • Reconsider need to sell sensors to farmers.

 Experiment Build:

Pre-departure:

  • Ensure all Trekkers are familiar with the pitching approach for soil sensors
  • Ensure that there enough sensors are packed for village visit
  • Ensure all trekkers understand how to use soil sensors
  • Ensure all trekkers have access to survey questions for feedback

Encounter:

  • Conduct survey with farmers that have bought sensors
  • If we find that some farmers don’t understand how to use the sensors, explain how to use the sensors again.
  • If new farmers are interested in buying sensor, pitch and sell sensors to them

Post Encounter:

  • Collate customer feedback regarding soil sensors

Hey FarmEd, this looks good! I'd like to see some clarity surrounding the experiment build (ie is it pitch sensor > conduct survey > sell sensor?). Does the metric of '80% of farmers with a soil sensor are able to use it' mean that you are selling 20% of farmers something that they don't know how to use? Perhaps reconsider this metric to be something along the lines of X number of farmers that are shown a sensor are able to use it and X number of those convert to sales.
