Project Everest

[Adopted Experiment] Solar Malawi Dec 18 – Sales Obstacles Survey

Content

Lean Phase: Cost Structure

Assumption: People in Nancholi have more expenses and therefore less disposable income in December compared to July.

Time Period: 1 week

Success Metric

Percentage of people who confirm that there are in fact more expenses/less disposable income in December compared to July

Criteria

Green Light – Confirm that assumption is valid and evaluate if there are ways Project Everest can make solar systems more accessible in the summer months or examine sales/pitching strategy in light of this circumstance.

Success Point – 70%+ of people surveyed confirm that there is more expenses/less disposable income available during December compared to July.

Orange Light – Revaluate survey questions can determine if they are testing the assumption we are seeking to validate.

Failure Point: Less than 20% of people surveyed confirm that there is more expenses/less disposable income available during December compared to July.

Red Light – The assumption is not valid and research other factors to explain the decrease in solar sales for December.

Experiment Build

  1. Ensure the questions are open-ended to ensure that people being surveyed can give elaborate answers that don’t require a ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

  2. Begin surveying people, be careful not to be insensitive as money is a sensitive topic for some people. A good way to do this is to start conversation with people before conducting the survey.

  3. Try to survey people individually so that survey responses aren’t influenced by people around them.
