Project Summary

[Project Summary]: Fuel Timor-Leste July 2018

The first Fuel Sustainability project was held over July in Timor-Leste, following the success of the Fuel sustainability project in Fiji. The main goal was to assess the feasibility of implementing the buka stove in Timor-Leste. Our other goals included manufacturing a prototype, and investigating alternative solutions that differ from the bukka stove.

The bulk of the work done over the month was empathising with the community throughout Timor, and conducting secondary research. The problems that were identified were related to adverse health effects, a negative impact on the environment and poor use of fuel. Pain Points that were identified were related to excessive smoke, reliability issues when using electricity, cooking time as well as time collecting fuel, and sustainability issues.
