Lean Phase: Solution (sales / early adopters)

Assumption: The small subsistence farmer customer segment are actively seeking a solution for lack of tailored and timely agricultural information and are willing to pay a one time payment for the product.

Time Box: 2 weeks

Key metrics: Total number of sales of application/service

Success point: 60% of farmers surveyed purchased the service

Green light:

  • Continue selling the service
  • Continue pitching the app to potential early adopters while continuing to collect data and survey current users

Orange light range: 30-60% of farmers surveyed purchased the service

Orange light:

  • Continue selling the service to farmers
  • Seek to understand objections to current MVP and how we can iterate in the future
  • Re-evaluate the pitch
  • Continue finding potential buyers

Failure point: Less than 30% of farmers surveyed purchased the service

Red light:

  • Identify why farmers are unwilling to purchase the service through feedback
  • Through discussion determine possible future futures, cost structures etc that would be more suitable
  • Adjust the pitching and demonstration approach
  • Address issues that customers are experiencing and pass on to development team

Experiment build:

Pre-encounter

  • Ensure all Trekkers are familiar with the pitching approach for the service as a whole as well as individual communication channels
  • Ensure all Trekkers have access to the link to distribute the app and access to a phone for demonstrations
  • Ensure all trekkers understand the context behind specific villagers prior to entry and encounter using HubSpot as a resource
  • Ensure all trekkers understand how to use the app and the information that should be provided should farmers use another method of communication for the service
  • Farm selection: Village should have smartphones/smart devices, local Fijian farmers, small to medium sized farms, villages that bought the previous app, villages that Farm Ed has not previously visited - Use the ‘Hot Village’ metric
  • Arrange with respective village headmen to meet with all the farmers in a village

Encounter:

  • Meet with headmen and attend pre-arranged meeting with all farmers
  • Pitch the application and run demos using the app on Android phones or alternatively provide the details of the Facebook page and text service where messages and questions can be directed.
  • Ask if they want to buy the app
  • Ensure farmers understand how to use the service independently

Post-encounter:

  • Collect data on sales and customer feedback
  • Record on Hubspot all meeting information for future teams
  • What worked well when pitching and tie into developing a blueprint for accessing early adopters
